Public consultation on this topic has closed.
Public consultation on proposed amendments to the Export Control (Tariff Rate Quotas – Sheepmeat and Goatmeat Export to the European Union and United Kingdom) Rules 2021 (Sheepmeat and Goatmeat Rules) was conducted between 24 August 2026 and 11 September 2026.
The Export Control Act 2020 and Export Control Rules 2021 came into effect in March 2021. The Act and rules form the overarching legislative framework for the regulation of exported goods from Australia. They underpin our reputation as a supplier of safe and reliable food and other products.
We routinely review the rules to ensure the framework continue to meet the needs of Australia’s agricultural exporters.
What happens next
The department will use feedback to make sure the rules continue to meet the needs of Australian exporters and support the effective export of our agricultural goods.
All consultation submissions will be considered and collated.
A consultation report will be released (submissions received will be published if permission has been provided).
We will amend, lodge and publish the amended Sheepmeat and Goatmeat Rules, considering feedback received.
Once the updated Rules are registered, they will be implemented.
