Share your feedback and help support more effective biosecurity risk management for imported sea containers.

The department applies specific biosecurity requirements to the movement of imported sea containers into rural areas. Postcode classifications support these requirements by confirming those areas the department considers rural. These arrangements have been reviewed internally to ensure they remain fit for purpose.

We invite you to share your feedback on:

  • the proposed Postcode Classification and Rural Movement Policy

  • the revised postcode classifications that will be used to determine biosecurity intervention requirements for imported sea containers.

Your feedback will help ensure the final policy, postcode classifications, and Postcode Classifications Map are practical, effective, and support Australia’s biosecurity system.

About the proposed policy

The proposed policy aims to:

  • introduce a nationally consistent, evidence-based approach to managing rural destination and rural transit pathway biosecurity risks

  • establish a consistent approach to determining and reviewing postcode classifications across Australia while providing a new Postcode Classifications Map as the authoritative source of classification information for industry.

The department also proposes to update the Integrated Cargo System (ICS) declaration requirements to support more effective biosecurity risk management.
