Public consultation on the revised draft report for review of live marine ornamental fish import policy is closed.

We are currently reviewing the biosecurity risks associated with importing live marine ornamental fish from all populations (wild and captive bred), from all countries.

How you had your say

We sought feedback from people, organisations, and industry groups across the ornamental industry. This included:

  • pet associations

  • ornamental importers

  • domestic suppliers

  • hobbyists

Who engaged

Survey

6 stakeholders responded through our survey.

Meetings

Three consultation meetings were held with stakeholders, including the domestic foodfish industry, ornamental fish industry, ornamental fish importers, state and territory governments and researchers. 2 of these meetings were online and 1 was in-person.

What happens next

Thank you for providing your feedback on the revised draft report. We will review and consider your feedback to develop the final report. Once the final report has been completed, it will be published on the department’s Have Your Say page.

The biosecurity measures recommended in the final report will be the basis of import conditions for imported live marine ornamental fish.

Previous consultation

We sought feedback from stakeholders on our initial draft report. We received 5 responses to the initial draft report. Submissions that provided permission to publish are available here. Submissions received on the revised draft report will be made available in the coming weeks.
