Public consultation on the Review of the Intergovernmental Agreement on Biosecurity (IGAB) is closed.
The IGAB’s independent reviewer, Dr Michele Allan AO sought feedback from Australian biosecurity stakeholders on potential improvements to the IGAB.
Dr Allan invited feedback from a range of participants in the national biosecurity system, including:
Industry (including agricultural and environmental)
Representative bodies (e.g. peak bodies, environmental and community groups)
Non-government organisations
Communities and individuals
Research organisations
State, territory and local governments
Australian Government.
Dr Allan received 30 submissions to the discussion paper. We have published 24 submissions, as 6 responses were submitted in confidence.
Dr Allan’s response to the consultations and submissions was consolidated into a final report which was released to agriculture ministers for their consideration on 22 January 2025.
It is anticipated that Australian agriculture ministers will consider Dr Allan’s final report and recommendations and develop a joint government response.
