We sought feedback from you about the future of fumigation monitoring technology: discussion paper in the biosecurity industry.
Feedback was invited from across the biosecurity industry, including:
fumigators and fumigation companies
importers, exporters and freight forwarders
logistics companies
customs brokers
technology developers or device manufacturers
government officers.
You gave feedback through:
face-to-face information sessions
written submissions
an online survey.
In total, 77 people participated in the consultation, with 67 survey responses received through the Have Your Say platform.
Respondents represented a broad cross-section of the biosecurity industry.
Feedback reflected broad recognition across industry of the potential value of adopting new fumigation monitoring technologies.
Common themes included:
Value of technology: new monitoring technologies were seen as supporting improved operational efficiency, regulatory compliance and supply chain transparency.
Business benefit: respondents noted the role of technology in managing commercial risk, improving consistency and supporting compliance with standards.
Upfront cost: The initial cost of investing in new fumigation monitoring technology was identified as a key consideration.
The department has published a report summarising the feedback received through this consultation.
The report does not introduce any new regulatory requirements.
The findings will inform the department’s early thinking and support broader consultation with stakeholders in 2026 on potential future policy options.
