We are reforming our approach to regulating exports in the non-prescribed goods (NPG) sector. As part of this reform, we will be establishing the Export Control (General Products) Rules (General Products Rules) under the Export Control Act 2020 (the Act).
The proposed General Products Rules will aim to improve regulation of many NPGs that are not currently prescribed under the Act. These include:
rendered goods
animal food
skins and hides
honey and honeybee products
wool and wool grease
pharmaceutical, technical and blood products
food and beverages.
The reform will help maintain and safeguard market access for Australian exporters of NPGs now and into the future. It will help us continue to assure trading partners that exported goods are meeting importing country requirements.
We released the survey on 30 March for a 7-week consultation period.
We sought feedback through this survey to help us understand the impact these reforms will have on you and your business. We invited feedback from all industry stakeholders across the NPG sector including:
exporters
producers
preparers
manufacturers.
We hosted virtual meetings and two online webinars to provide an opportunity for participants to ask questions and seek clarification on the reforms.
We will review and consider the views shared to better understand the impacts of the reform and refine how we can support a smooth transition.
