The Water for the Environment Special Account (WESA) is under review. This review is being conducted by an independent panel.

WESA is a $1.7 billion public fund established under the Water Act 2007. It funds recovery of additional water and constraints projects under the Murray–Darling Basin Plan.

What the review is looking at

The review will consider whether allocated funds are enough to

  • reach the target of 450 gigalitres of environmental water by 2024, and
  • ease or remove constraints to delivery of environmental water by 2024.
