The Water for the Environment Special Account (WESA) is under review. This review is being conducted by an independent panel.

WESA is a $1.7 billion public fund established under the Water Act 2007. It funds recovery of additional water and constraints projects under the Murray-Darling Basin Plan.

What the review is looking at

The review will consider whether allocated funds are enough to

  • reach the target of 450 gigalitres of environmental water by 2024, and
  • ease or remove constraints to delivery of environmental water by 2024.
