Export of sheep to the Middle East during September and October 2019

Submissions are now closed.

We asked for your feedback on the options for exporting live sheep to, or through, the Middle East during September and October 2019.

Outcome

We considered the best available science and evidence, and feedback from your submissions. We extended the prohibition on live sheep exports to, or through, the Middle East to 22 September 2019. Our decision only relates to 2019.

What happens next

We will decide future regulation of live sheep exports following a Regulation Impact Statement (RIS) process.

To start this process, we will release a discussion paper outlining draft policy options. It will be open for public comment for 30 days.

After submissions close, this feedback will contribute to the development of a draft RIS, which will also be released for public consultation.

We intend to complete the RIS process by March 2020.
