Share your thoughts on proposed changes to the Biosecurity (Conditionally Non-Prohibited Goods) Determination 2021
The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) has reviewed the Biosecurity (Conditionally Non‑prohibited Goods) Determination 2021 and is proposing to make changes to the Determination. The proposed changes seek to ensure that specified classes of goods brought to the Australian mainland manage biosecurity risks to Australia’s Appropriate Level of Protection and support implementation of contemporary risk management measures.
The Determination identifies certain classes of goods as ‘conditionally non-prohibited goods’. These goods must not be brought or imported into the Australian mainland unless covered by an import permit or alternative conditions in the Determination are met.
We are seeking views from industry stakeholders on the proposed changes to the Determination. In general, the changes being considered can be categorised as follows:
Updating alternative conditions for existing classes of goods.
Including new classes of goods with specified alternative conditions.
Minor technical and consequential amendments.
Broadening certain classes of goods, allowing more goods to meet existing relevant alternative conditions.
Narrowing certain classes of goods, meaning that certain goods which could previously be imported without an import permit by complying with the relevant alternative conditions, will now only be able to be imported if covered by an import permit.
These proposed changes are for consultation purposes only. They may change based on your feedback and the broader policy development process. The proposed changes are not to be used to facilitate the bringing or importing of any goods to Australian territory at this point in time.
The feedback that you provide will help inform the review and amendment of the Determination.
