Consultation has concluded
We have finalised the risk analysis for fresh pomegranate whole fruit and processed ‘ready-to-eat’ arils from India.
It is recommended that the import of fresh pomegranate whole fruit and processed ‘ready-to-eat’ arils from India be permitted provided they meet our biosecurity import conditions.
Thirteen pests associated with fresh pomegranate whole fruit and three pests associated with processed ‘ready-to-eat’ arils are present in India and need risk management measures to reduce the risk to an acceptable level. A range of measures are recommended to reduce the risk of these pests arriving in Australia via the pomegranate fruit pathway.
We released a draft deport for fresh pomegranate whole fruit and ‘ready-to-eat’ arils from India on 18 October 2019, for public consultation. The consultation period closed on 17 December 2019.
All submissions were considered in finalising the risk analysis.
You can read the final risk analysis report as well as our responses to stakeholder comments on the draft report.
