Provide your feedback on the Review of devitalisation requirements for cut flowers and foliage: draft report.
The department’s import conditions currently require the devitalisation of cut flower species with the potential of propagation from the stem prior to export. Devitalisation is a treatment that prevents plant material from being able to be propagated.
We are reviewing the devitalisation requirements for imported fresh cut flowers and foliage from all permitted countries. To support our review, we are seeking your feedback on a draft report to ensure our policy is scientifically justified and fit-for-purpose. This review is part of the pest risk analysis for the cut flower and foliage pathway we initiated in 2018.
The draft report includes:
the proposal to remove devitalisation on imported fresh cut flowers and foliage
the evaluation of evidence of propagation of cut flowers imported for decorative purposes, known as diversion from intended use (‘DFIU’)
the assessment of risks from personal and commercial DFIU (without the use of devitalisation)
other relevant technical considerations.
Your views will help to inform our assessment of risks and appropriate recommendations regarding the use of devitalisation on imported fresh cut flowers and foliage.
