Breadfruit from Fiji, Samoa and Tonga

We have finalised the risk analysis for fresh breadfruit from Fiji, Samoa and Tonga.

It is recommended that the import of breadfruit from Fiji, Samoa and Tonga be permitted provided it meets our biosecurity import conditions.

Seven quarantine pests associated with breadfruit are present in Fiji, Samoa and Tonga, and need risk management measures to reduce the risk to an acceptable level. A range of measures are recommended to reduce the risk of these pests arriving in Australia via the breadfruit fruit pathway.

We released a draft deport for fresh breadfruit from Fiji, Samoa and Tonga on 4 October 2018, for pubic consultation. The consultation period closed on 3 December 2018.

All submissions were considered in finalising the risk analysis.

You can read the final risk analysis report as well as our responses to stakeholder comments on the draft report.
