Food safety certification requirements for imported bivalve molluscs

We are proposing changes to food safety import requirements for bivalve molluscs and bivalve mollusc products under the Imported Food Inspection Scheme (IFIS).

The Australian Government released a consultation paper, Proposals for changes to the inspection and analysis of imported food – May 2017.

Industry bodies and overseas governments were generally supportive of the proposed changes. The submissions requested clarification on government certification of bivalve molluscs and bivalve mollusc products.

In response we are seeking feedback from stakeholders on a second consultation paper that outlines the food safety certification requirements for imported bivalve molluscs and bivalve mollusc products.
