Public consultation on the draft review of Biosecurity risks of lumpy skin disease in beef imports is closed.

We are reviewing the biosecurity risk from lumpy skin disease associated with import of fresh (chilled or frozen) beef into Australia for human consumption.

Recently published science on the transmission of the disease in beef prompted this review.

This work is being undertaken as a non-regulated review of biosecurity import risk under the Biosecurity Act 2015.

Feedback closed 5pm AEST, Wednesday 26 July 2023.

Your input will help us make recommendations to potential changes to Australia’s import conditions for beef products.

How you had your say

We sought feedback from stakeholders on the draft review of the Biosecurity risks of lumpy skin disease in beef imports. We were particularly interested in your comments on the accuracy of existing science concerning the distribution of the causal virus in bovine tissues and risk management that would be appropriate to manage the biosecurity risk in light of that evidence.

What happens next

We will carefully consider all submissions and where appropriate make changes before finalising the review.
