Thank you for your feedback on the format of the Australian Standards for the Export of Livestock (ASEL). We have finalised the ASEL review and have published the updated standards on our website.

Feedback on the format of the ASEL was part of the larger consultation process for the ASEL review.

Submissions

We received 6 submissions during the review process.

What you told us

Feedback highlighted that the ASEL needs to be clear, understandable and easily accessible.

Several submissions noted that requirements for air export should be fully separate from those for sea. One submission emphasised that a single document would allow all the standards to be in one place and avoid any confusion caused by having the same numbering for different standards in both the ASEL for air and the ASEL for sea.

What we did

We updated the format of the standards in response to your feedback. Standards 1 – 5 apply to livestock exported by sea. All standards that apply to livestock exported by air are contained in standard 6. To improve accessibility, standards 1, 3, 5 and 6 outline general and all species requirements followed by species-specific requirements, to direct readers to the requirements specific for the species intended for export.
